Endorectal ultrasound (ERUS) has become a basic tool for the diagnosis and staging of many proctologic and pelvic floor disorders.
The procedure is done by the use of an ultrasound and a rectal probe, specially design to explore the rectoanal area.
This procedure is useful in many different situations:
- Rectoanal diseases such as perianal fistula, perianal abcess, Crohn´s disease etc.
- Rectal tumor staging
- Fecal incontinence. By ERUS we can visualize defects in the anal sphincters.
- Other situations such us anal pain etc.
